Tiverton Ballroom Dancers' Club |
Tiverton Ballroom Dancers' Club was first formed in 1992 by a group of ballroom dancers that met informally at the tea dances which were held at Tiverton Hotel.
This small group soon grew in size but when the hotel discontinued the tea dances in 1993, an alternative venue was found at the Heathcoat Hall in Wellbrook Street, EX16 5JW, which had an excellent floor and bar available.
The Club has a written Constitution and elects their committee at an AGM in January of each year and their news letter is issued to members frequently to publicise forthcoming events. Information is also shown on their website (see above).
The Club currently has a membership fee of £3 per person per year. Dances are held once a month with an entrance fee of £6. Visitors are always very welcome and are charged £7. The dances usually start at 8 o'clock and finish at 11pm. The Members Only Christmas Dance is a little more special and finishes at 11.30pm. Only on this occasion are DJs and posh frocks the preferred choice of dress. The Christmas Dinner Dance has outside caterers and is always a very popular ticket only event. Members usually take the opportunity to make the Valentines Dance into a special occasions by making it a 'Bringing and Share Supper Dance' and the ladies wear red.
The music is provided by 'live' musicians on keyboards and the Club Community takes great pleasure in being able to provide some of the finest musicians in Devon. The Heatcoat venue has a bar with refreshments available and the atmosphere is always very friendly. Club members are interested in ballroom and latin dancing, quick step, foxtrot, rhumba, cha cha cha, tango and samba - all the usual dances plus some sequence dances - usually six or seven of the more commonly known ones, per evening with occasional old-time dances too. There is always a raffle and everything is geared to make the evening enjoyable so please come and join us, we would love to meet you.
